Description

Product Description: Levetiracetam Injection is a sterile solution containing levetiracetam, a medication used to treat seizures in patients with epilepsy. It belongs to the class of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and works by stabilizing electrical activity in the brain to prevent seizures.

Indications and Usage: Levetiracetam Injection is indicated for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in adults and children aged 4 years and older. It is also used as adjunctive therapy in the management of myoclonic seizures in patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Levetiracetam Injection varies depending on the patient's age, weight, and renal function. It is administered intravenously over 15 minutes to 60 minutes. The recommended initial dose for adults is 1000 mg twice daily, with subsequent dose adjustments based on individual response and tolerability.

Dosage Forms and Strengths: Levetiracetam Injection is available as a sterile solution in vials for intravenous administration. It is commonly supplied in concentrations of 100 mg/mL or 500 mg/5 mL.

Contraindications: Levetiracetam Injection is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to other pyrrolidone derivatives.

Warnings and Precautions: Use caution when administering Levetiracetam Injection to patients with renal impairment, as dose adjustments may be necessary to prevent accumulation of the drug. Monitor patients closely for signs of CNS depression, suicidal ideation, or behavioral changes, particularly during the initiation of therapy or following dose adjustments.

Adverse Reactions/Side Effects: Common adverse reactions associated with Levetiracetam Injection include somnolence, dizziness, asthenia, and headache. Other less common side effects may include psychiatric disturbances, hematological abnormalities, or hypersensitivity reactions. Discontinue treatment and seek medical attention if any adverse reactions occur.

Drug Interactions: Levetiracetam Injection may interact with other antiepileptic drugs or medications that affect renal function, metabolism, or the central nervous system. Concurrent use with drugs that induce or inhibit hepatic enzymes may alter levetiracetam plasma concentrations, necessitating dose adjustments.

Use In Specific Populations Description: Safety and efficacy of Levetiracetam Injection in pediatric patients, pregnant women, and nursing mothers have not been established. Use caution and consult with a healthcare professional before administering to individuals in these populations.
