Description

Product Description: Labetalol Injection is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution used for intravenous administration. It is a combined alpha- and beta-adrenergic blocker, indicated for the management of hypertension.

Indications and Usage: Labetalol Injection is indicated for the acute control of blood pressure in severe hypertension or hypertensive emergencies. It may also be used for the treatment of hypertensive crises associated with pheochromocytoma.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Labetalol Injection should be individualized based on the patient's blood pressure response and tolerance. It is administered intravenously at an initial rate of 20 mg over 2 minutes, followed by additional doses if necessary, up to a maximum rate of 80 mg every 10 minutes.

Dosage Forms and Strengths: Labetalol Injection is available as a sterile solution in vials or ampules for intravenous use. It is commonly supplied in concentrations of 5 mg/mL or 20 mg/mL.

Contraindications: Labetalol Injection is contraindicated in patients with bronchial asthma, overt cardiac failure, greater-than-first-degree heart block, cardiogenic shock, severe bradycardia, and hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

Warnings and Precautions: Use caution when administering Labetalol Injection to patients with bronchial asthma or congestive heart failure, as it may exacerbate these conditions. Abrupt withdrawal of beta-blockers may exacerbate angina or precipitate myocardial infarction in patients with coronary artery disease.

Adverse Reactions/Side Effects: Adverse reactions associated with Labetalol Injection may include hypotension, bradycardia, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Rarely, bronchospasm or worsening of heart failure may occur.

Drug Interactions: Labetalol Injection may potentiate the effects of other antihypertensive agents, such as diuretics or calcium channel blockers. Concurrent administration with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) may enhance the hypotensive effect of labetalol.

Use In Specific Populations Description: Safety and efficacy of Labetalol Injection in pediatric patients, pregnant women, and nursing mothers have not been established. Use caution and consult with a healthcare professional before administering to individuals in these populations.
