Description

Product Description: Cefoperazone + Sulbactam Injection is a potent combination of cefoperazone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This combination therapy offers broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and is specifically designed to combat infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Indications and Usage: Cefoperazone + Sulbactam Injection is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. It is commonly prescribed for infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, intra-abdominal infections, septicemia, and bacterial meningitis.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage and administration regimen should be determined by a qualified healthcare professional based on factors such as the severity of the infection, the patient's age and weight, and the susceptibility of the causative bacteria. Cefoperazone + Sulbactam is typically administered intravenously or intramuscularly at intervals ranging from every 6 to 12 hours.

Dosage Forms and Strengths: Cefoperazone + Sulbactam Injection is available as a sterile powder for reconstitution in various strengths, typically ranging from 1 gram of cefoperazone combined with 0.5 grams of sulbactam to 2 grams of cefoperazone combined with 1 gram of sulbactam per vial.

Contraindications: Cefoperazone + Sulbactam Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics, beta-lactamase inhibitors, or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.

Warnings and Precautions: Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported with the use of cefoperazone + sulbactam. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of allergies, asthma, or other allergic conditions. Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea has been reported with the use of nearly all antibacterial agents, including cefoperazone + sulbactam.

Adverse Reactions/Side Effects: Common adverse reactions associated with cefoperazone + sulbactam include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash, and injection site reactions. Serious adverse reactions may include severe allergic reactions, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, and hepatic dysfunction.

Drug Interactions: Cefoperazone + Sulbactam may interact with other medications, including probenecid, which may increase the serum concentration of cefoperazone by reducing renal excretion. Concurrent use with calcium-containing intravenous solutions may result in precipitation and should be avoided.

Use In Specific Populations Description: Use of cefoperazone + sulbactam in pregnant women should be weighed against the potential risks to the fetus. It is excreted in breast milk; caution should be exercised when administering to nursing mothers. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have been established for certain indications and age groups.

Clinical Pharmacology: Cefoperazone exerts its bactericidal effects by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, while sulbactam inhibits the action of beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby protecting cefoperazone from degradation and extending its antibacterial spectrum.

Nonclinical Toxicology: Animal studies have demonstrated the potential for renal toxicity at high doses. However, these effects are typically not observed at therapeutic doses in humans.

Clinical Studies: Clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of cefoperazone + sulbactam in the treatment of various bacterial infections, including complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, and nosocomial pneumonia.
