Description

Product Description: Verapamil Injection is a sterile solution used for intravenous administration. It belongs to the class of medications known as calcium channel blockers and is primarily used to treat certain heart rhythm disorders and hypertension. This medication works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

Indications and Usage: Verapamil Injection is indicated for the treatment of certain heart rhythm disorders, including supraventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation/flutter. Additionally, it is used to control hypertension in situations where oral therapy is not feasible or desirable.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Verapamil Injection varies depending on the indication and patient's response to therapy. For the treatment of supraventricular tachycardia, the usual adult dose is 5 to 10 mg administered intravenously over 2 minutes, with additional doses of 10 to 20 mg if necessary. In the management of hypertension, the recommended initial dose is 5 mg administered intravenously over 2 minutes, with subsequent doses titrated based on blood pressure response.

Dosage Forms and Strengths: Verapamil Injection is available as a sterile solution in vials for intravenous administration. It is commonly supplied in concentrations of 2.5 mg/mL and 5 mg/mL.

Contraindications: Verapamil Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to verapamil or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in individuals with severe left ventricular dysfunction, hypotension, or cardiogenic shock.

Warnings and Precautions: Use caution when administering Verapamil Injection to patients with impaired hepatic function or heart failure, as it may exacerbate these conditions. Monitor patients closely for signs of hypotension, bradycardia, or heart block during therapy. Avoid concurrent use with other medications that affect cardiac conduction or blood pressure.

Adverse Reactions/Side Effects: Common adverse reactions associated with Verapamil Injection include hypotension, bradycardia, dizziness, headache, and flushing. Less frequently, it may cause constipation, nausea, vomiting, or rash. Serious adverse effects such as heart block or myocardial depression may occur with higher doses or rapid administration.

Drug Interactions: Verapamil Injection may interact with other medications that affect cardiac conduction or blood pressure, such as beta-blockers, antiarrhythmic agents, or calcium channel blockers. Concurrent use with these drugs may potentiate or antagonize the effects of verapamil.

Use In Specific Populations Description: Safety and efficacy of Verapamil Injection in pediatric patients, pregnant women, and nursing mothers have not been established. Use caution and consult with a healthcare professional before administering to individuals in these populations.
